It's not really just the nature of auctions~ Its taking advantage of an artificial mechanic (intended only for the artists convenience) so you can pay less for a piece than you otherwise would have if bidding went naturally. Its scummy, plain and simple, and basically stealing from the artist in question by artificially depressing the bidding. I hope in the future you acknowledge that this is bad behavior and instead engage with the system as intended, instead of taking the easy and self serving path.
That was not my intended strategy, otherwise I would've used it straight after your first bid for a even lower price. Admittedly, it was indecision on whether I really wanted the piece. As I saw it count down the final minute, I caved in and made the last bid. There is a option for snipe protection, which extends the auction for another 10 minutes, but that's a decision the artist would need to make. Anyway, reached out as I do acknowledge that sniping is scummy. I hope you get your chance.
